Spanish

¡Bienvenidos y bienvenidas a las clases de español!

Pupils at our school learn Spanish and enjoy the benefits of starting to learn a foreign language at an early age. We support the view that learning a modern foreign language is an entitlement for all pupils, regardless of their background and ability, and therefore all pupils are encouraged to develop their full potential in Spanish.

Learning a foreign language provides an opening to other cultures, fosters pupils’ curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world. It helps them to develop communication skills, including key skills of speaking and listening, and extends their knowledge of how language works, helping them to develop their grammar skills, and overall preparing pupils to the challenges of the secondary languages curriculum.

Curriculum

Word mats and knowledge organisers

Knowledge Organisers include essential vocabulary about a topic, laid out in easy-to-digest chunks. They are an excellent revision tool.

Spanish Champions

At Lauriston, extended learning is promoted by our Spanish Champions, who help other pupils and support their class teachers to practice what we learn in Spanish class throughout the week.

Our Spanish Champions always follow Lauriston’s expectations. We feel extremely proud of them and the important role they play in our school.

Tongue twister

At Lauriston we encourage learning tongue twisters as a fun way to learn new vocabulary and practice pronunciation.

Tongue twister of the term:

Autumn Term 1

Pancha plancha con cuatro planchas, ¿con cuántas planchas Pancha plancha?

Autumn Term 2

Tres tristes tigres tragaban trigo en un trigal,

sentados tras un trigal, en tres tristes trastos, tragaban trigo, tres tristes tigres.

Spring Term 1

El perro de Rita me irrita. Dile a Rita que cambie el perro por una perrita.

Spring Term 2

Saca las cosas del saco de casa,

le dijo el sapo a la sapa tomasa.

Las cosas del saco no las sacaré,

que la casa es mía y el saco también.
