Lower Phase Curriculum
In Year One the children begin to work on the objectives of the National Curriculum. We build upon the skills developed in the Early Years Framework and throughout the year further develop more formal learning skills. Lauriston highly values creative and investigative learning and this is evident in the Year 1 classrooms.
Every morning, the children develop reading skills though the ‘Daily Supported Reading’ programme and in addition are taught phonics using the Ruth Miskin scheme.
In Year Two the children continue working on the objectives of the National Curriculum. At the end of Year 2 all children are assessed using Teacher Assessment and the Standard Attainment Tests.
Every morning, the children further develop reading skills through Guided Reading and in addition are taught phonics using the Ruth Miskin scheme.
If you would like to find out more about the curriculum please contact the school and we’d be happy to help.
